What is the conveyance process?

A conveyance process is the process of moving products or parts from one production stage to the next. As the number of production processes increases, the number of parts and places that need to be transported increases, so the efficiency of production will change due to the quality of the transport process.
The key points in selecting the actuator required for the transfer process are "positioning accuracy" and "weight of the workpiece.
Air cylinders are strong enough to handle heavy workpieces weighing 100 kg or more. Electric actuators are also easier to control the movement and can improve positioning accuracy.

Key Points for Selection
"Positioning accuracy" and "Workpiece weight"

The type of actuator to be selected for the transfer process depends on whether priority is
given to "positioning accuracy" or "workpiece weight.
If you want to transport heavy objects weighing 100 kg or more, an air cylinder is recommended,
while an electric actuator is recommended if precise positioning or multiple movement points are required.

Electric actuators with easy positioning are recommended

Easy positioning is considered better for conveyance processes.
Electric actuators enable high-precision positioning in the program settings and easy multi-point positioning.
Acceleration/Deceleration and effective speed can be set, so transport and shock absorbing transport are possible at stable speeds.

CKD electric actuators offer a wide variety of control methods for easy selection.

Air cylinders are recommended for fast movement of heavy workpieces

Air cylinders are recommended when the weight of the workpiece exceeds 100 kg. Electric actuators may slow down the transfer speed or may not be able to transfer the workpiece when it weighs more than 100 kg.

CKD's air cylinders support long, high-speed travel and vertical transfer

Air cylinders are adept at wide width, high-speed travel, and vertical transport.
Air cylinders have the same payload capacity for vertical transfers.

Comparison of Air Cylinder and Electric Actuators

Let's compare the cost and performance of actual models of CKD's air cylinders and electric actuators.

Comparison conditions

Comparison by Cost

Since the operating life of the Electric EBS Series is long,
the number of replacements can be reduced.

■ Calculation of costs Initial product price, product or parts price at the time of replacement, and electricity cost during operation
Electricity cost during operation: 22 yen per 1kwh.
Air is calculated by converting air consumption into electric power and combining it with the electric power consumption of solenoid valves and cylinder switches.
Labor cost for maintenance is not included.
*Replacement time is calculated based on test data under our specified conditions and is not guaranteed.

Comparison by Actuator Dimensions

Air is compact, but may require an external guide.
For Electric Motion, the outer rail guide is built in.

Comparison by Positioning time

When moving between two points, the Air SRL3 Series is advantageous.

Comparison by CO2 Emissions

Even if the number of operations per minute increases, Electric CO2 emissions are kept low.

*CO2 emissions vary depending on the stroke.

■ Calculation of CO2 Emissions [Conditions] Annual operating days: 250 days Operation time: 8 hours/day Air pressure: 0.5MPa (clamp: 0.4MPa, conveying: 0.25MPa)
CO2 emissions converted from annual power consumption (kg-CO2/year) Annual electric power consumption (kWh) × 0.000406* × 1000*
*CO2 emission factor: Ministry of the Environment's publicized emission factors by electric utility, R2 fiscal year results Chubu Electric Power Mirise CO2 emission coefficient *1000:kg conversion
Air is calculated by converting air consumption into electric energy and adding the power consumption of solenoid valves and cylinder switches.
