Notice of a joint development agreement with Musashi Seimitsu Industry Co., Ltd.

CKD Corporation (Headquarters: Komaki City, Aichi Prefecture, President: Kazunori Kajimoto) is pleased to announce that a joint development agreement has been signed to promote the manufacturing and marketing of Musashi Seimitsu Industry Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture, Representative Director: Hiroshi Otsuka) This joint development is an agreement for the manufacture and sale of roll-to-roll lithium pre-doped equipment that realizes higher capacity, longer life, and improved safety.

It is widely known that lithium predoping technology enables efficient cell design that takes into account the capacity balance of the positive and negative electrodes of LIB, and is effective in improving performance and differentiation. This lithium pre-doping device provides an epoch-making solution for the current liquid-based LIB called advanced LIB, and greatly improves the performance of LIB, which is a key device in the carbon-neutral era.

Specifically, the technology we have cultivated with electrode transfer in the field of lithium-ion battery winders, and Musashi Energy Solutions Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, Representative Director: Kouji Takahashi), which electrochemically inserts a predetermined amount of lithium into an electrode in the electrolytic solution, will integrate our proprietary pre-doping technology and realize the introduction of pre-doping technology into the LIB manufacturing process, which has been considered difficult until now.

By introducing this predoped Engineering, it becomes possible to reduce the usage of rare metals used as positive electrode materials of LIB. This extends the cycle life of LIB by suppressing the deterioration reaction on the negative electrode side. In addition, depending on the design, the energy density is improved by about 20% to 40% by lithium predoping into LIB, and the cycle life of LIB is increased by approximately 3 to 4 times.

CKD Corporation continues to strive for technological innovation and value creation, and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society through monodzukuri through advanced automation and fluid control technologies.
