1. Overview of the Kinoshita Award
The Kinoshita Award is an award program established to commemorate the many years of contributions to the packaging industry made by the late Matasaburo Kinoshita, the second chairman of the Japan Packaging Institute. It is awarded each year to those who, during that fiscal year, have achieved outstanding accomplishments in (1) research and development in packaging, (2) improvement and rationalization of packaging, and (3) creation of new fields in packaging. This is a renowned award in Japan’s packaging technology field, and this year marks its 50th presentation.
2. Award Details
(1) Screening Result: Improvement and Rationalization category award
(2) Awarded product: [World’s First]Development and Implementation of EcoScrap Technology for Blister Packaging to Minimize Plastic Waste
(3) Evaluation Highlights: As a world first initiative for blister packaging, this packaging technology based on the concept of Reduce, which significantly reduces resource consumption and waste generation, was evaluated highly.
3. About EcoScrap Technology
With conventional blister packaging manufacturing technology, it had been considered necessary to provide a margin width in the film in order to maintain packaging quality, and reducing it was thought to be difficult. EcoScrap Technology overturns conventional wisdom and is the first blister packaging manufacturing technology in the world to achieve practical use of a production method that can reduce plastic waste generation by more than 70% compared with conventional methods while maintaining packaging quality, by improving the manufacturing method through a combination of proprietary technologies. By establishing a system that can be introduced simply by modifying existing machines, we have simultaneously achieved a reduced environmental impact, reduced workload, and improved economic efficiency.
