The world is in constant flux, with new technologies and challenges emerging daily. Our “practical application of PTP packaging using biomass plastic” exemplifies our commitment to tackling these challenges. We aimed to contribute to carbon neutrality by replacing conventional petroleum-based plastics with plant-derived biomass plastic. Our priority was maintaining the same appearance and ease of tablet removal as conventional PTP sheets to avoid any inconvenience for patients. Biomass film is inherently harder and less transparent than conventional materials. To overcome this, the pharmaceutical manufacturer, packaging material manufacturer, and CKD collaborated, driven by a shared mission to create a superior product for both patients and the environment. Through persistent efforts, including identifying optimal conditions for the film characteristics, each company overcame the challenges. As a result, we successfully launched PTP sheets using biomass film.
In food packaging, we are developing long-life packaging to reduce food loss and environmentally friendly packaging solutions. We are constantly generating new ideas, including containers made by integrally molding paper and thin plastic, and edible, biodegradable containers made from 100% natural materials.

Our work in Automatic Machinery begins with understanding our customers’ challenges and finding solutions. Take, for example, the automotive industry, currently undergoing a once-in-a-century transformation. The BEV (Battery EV) segment is experiencing rapid growth, leading to a surge in companies manufacturing BEV components. To keep pace with this evolving market, our lithium-ion battery winding machines are playing a crucial role in our customers’ manufacturing processes. These machines accurately layer and wind positive electrode materials, negative electrode materials, and separators (insulating materials) in precise positions, demanding speed, accuracy, and reliability. Our sales representatives work closely with customers, sharing information and collaborating with our technical department to overcome these challenges. The greater the challenge, the more it fuels our pride in manufacturing.

As we address customer challenges with our advanced technical capabilities, we often encounter situations that require considering the entire production line, including upstream and downstream processes. For example, consider our solder printing inspection machine. Using 3D image analysis, it instantly detects solder printing defects and foreign matter with an accuracy rate of over 99.999%. Traditionally, these machines were installed at the final stage of the production line. However, we challenged this convention and proposed placing the inspection machine immediately after the solder printing machine. This prevents wasted components that would otherwise be assembled onto defective boards.
This approach has enabled the detection of initial process defects, which account for 70% of in-process defects, significantly reducing defect outflow. Furthermore, by accumulating and analyzing captured image data, we can identify defect trends and improve productivity. We strive to contribute to a wider range of customers worldwide with our advanced technology and innovative ideas.
