They are necessary to realize factory automation when you need big power to work by pneumatic system, you need the big diameter cylinder,too.

For example, to generate 5 tons of thrust, a tube with a diameter of approximately ø500 mm is required. To put that in perspective, this is roughly the size of a basketball hoop, making the unit so large that heavy machinery is needed for its installation. (Conditions: 0.5 MPa, 50% load factor)
